May 2017 Curbside Collection Program Changes:
Starting May 1, 2017, the City’s curbside collection program will include weekly organics (food and yard waste) and recycling collection along with a switch to bi-weekly garbage collection.
The City has completed a comprehensive financial review of the garbage exemption program and due to the switch to bi-weekly garbage pickup for all residents the garbage portion of curbside fees is decreasing significantly under the new program. Given the significant administrative costs associated with the exemption program, the City has decided to standardize the curbside program and no longer allow exemptions effective May 2017.
All current exemptions will expire on April 30, 2017.*
The City's Solid Waste Collection and Disposal Bylaw does not allow exemptions shorter than three months in duration. Therefore, no new exemption applications are accepted after January 31, 2017.
If you had an approved exemption prior to January 31, 2017 that expires before April 30, 2017, the exemption may be extended to April 30, 2017. Please call 604.793.2907 for more information.
*Owners of properties rendered uninhabitable by fire or natural disaster, or under demolition may still apply for discontinuation of curbside collection service. Proof of fire destruction or demolition is required. Please call 604.792.9498 for more information.
