Press Release
Fire Prevention Week, October 4-11, 2014 September 23, 2014

“Working Smoke alarms Save Lives” is this year’s theme and the Chilliwack Fire Department would like families to focus on correct installation, testing and maintenance of their home smoke alarms. Statistics prove that a large majority of home fires do not have working smoke alarms.

We also want families to identify and eliminate any potential fire hazards in their home along with planning their home fire escape, especially identifying two ways out of every room.

Eighty (80%) of fires in Chilliwack occur in the home. We encourage everyone to be able to identify and prevent potential fire hazards and be prepared to safely evacuate your home if a fire does occur.

Fire prevention information and tips can be found on our website at www.chilliwack.com/fire, or contact us at 604-792-8713.

Fire safety is everyone’s responsibility so let’s work together to continue to make Chilliwack a fire-safe community.
