Winter Birds - Collage Series. Tuesdays, Jan. 13, 20, 27. 3:30 - 5:00. Ages 7 - 12. Instructor and artist Steph Brubaker finds inspiration in the outdoors and brings it inside in this fun and creative series. Folk Art of the World. Ages 7 - 12. Thursday, Jan. 15 - Feb. 5, 3:30 - 5:00. Take a journey around the world and learn about some of the indigenous cultures through traditional folk art. In this workshop you will be transported to Central America where you will explore the brightly colored shapes and patterns of the ‘Molas’ of Panama followed by a trip across the ocean to visit Central India to learn the art of the Gond tribe. Then back to the West Coast of BC and the inspirational art of the Haida people. Passports are not necessary. Cost: $65.

6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Are you a teen? Join the Chilliwack Libraries Teen Advisory Group (TAG). Be a library ambassador and help organize, run and promote teen library programs. The Chilliwack Community Arts Council in collaboration with School District 33 Aboriginal Education Department are proud to present the vibrant and passionate art show: Inspirations by Cree Artist Jerry Whitehead. Whitehead, a Saskatchewan born artist, creates colourful and lively art with an emphasis on powwows and powwow dancers. He says, “Powwow dancers have been an ongoing theme in my work since I began painting. Seeing the dancers as a child had a lasting impression. The subject matter has been ideal for expressing a part of my culture as well as accommodating changes in my work”. His interest in art stems from his family: his grandmother worked with hides and his mother with beadwork and braided rugs. He credits his family’s encouragement in helping him to develop his art. As family man himself now, he more frequently incorporates family themes into his work. Along with his natural talent, Whitehead has obtained technical training and has a Bachelor of Arts in Indian Art from the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax. Whitehead currently resides in Vancouver, BC, but his work can be seen throughout western Canada. Drawing for Real - Feathers and Fur. Saturday, Jan. 17 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. Ages 13 - Adult. Drawing animals is a wonderful way to help yourself look more carefully at nature. Instructor Pat Gerlach will take students for a walk on the wild side with this realistic drawing class which will cover both fur and feathers on animals. Basic drawing skills recommended. The Warmth of Winter Soups. Tuesday, Jan. 20th, 6:30 - 8:30 pm. During the long cold days of winter soups are the perfect way to warm the soul and please the palate. Join Chef Mike Slanzi as he shares his recipes for 3 of his favorite soups; Chicken Tortilla, Butternut Squash, and the classic favorite, Cream of Broccoli. He will also be sharing a Quick Bread recipe perfect for mopping up the last of the soup. Put on your slippers and a comfy sweater and enjoy! Cost: $29.

Paint your Pet! Saturday, Jan. 24, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. Ages 7 - 12. Cats, dogs, budgies, snake, llama or a goldfish-whatever your pet is bring a photo and instructor Pat Gerlach will walk you through turning your ordinary photo into a colorful recreation of your pet on canvas. Ages: 2-4 years. 4:15 - 5:30 pm. $60. This parent participation program allows young gymnasts to explore gymnastics activities in a structured class, with the guidance of a parent. Your child will learn fundamental gymnastic movements and will experiment using rhythmic gymnastics equipment, developing gross motor skills and coordination.

Ages: 4-6 years. 5:45 - 6:30 pm. $60. Kids will have fun and get physically active while learning the basics of rhythmic gymnastics. Certified Coaches will incorporate movement to music with a variety of apparatus such as ribbons, hoops, ropes, balls etc.

Soap Making for Beginners. Thursday, Jan. 29, 6:30 - 9:00 pm. Ages: Adult. Instructor Patti Lawn will demonstrate the basics of making ‘cold-process soap’ from scratch: the process, tools and ingredients including lye, fixed oils, fragrance oils, essential oils, micas, oxides, and natural colorants. You will take home at least 2 bars of colorful, handmade soap made at the class, as well as an information booklet. Please dress comfortable, and make sure your arms are covered. Cost: $45.

Ages: 7-11+ years. 5:00 - 6:00 pm. $45. From inspiration to creation...create wonderful handmade cards for Valentine’s Day and other occasions. Classes will cover the basics of card making including: stamping, embossing, decorative borders, etc. All supplies are included. Children will make 4 cards per class, 16 cards for the session. KIDS CAN SEE EXAMPLES OF CARDS THEY WILL BE MAKING POSTED ON THE PHECSA BULLETIN BOARD!

Ages: 7-9 years. 6:30 - 7:30 pm. $65. Kids will have fun and get physically active while learning the basics of rhythmic gymnastics! Class will incorporate movement to music with a variety of apparatus such as ribbons, hoops, ropes, balls etc. All taught by Certified coaches!

6:45 pm - 7:15 pm. Tuck into a story! Children and caregivers will be entertained with stories, songs, rhymes, and more. Kids are encouraged to wear their pyjamas and bring their favourite stuffie. Storytime prepares children to learn to read.

The Comic Strippers are back! This fictitious male stripper troupe, played by some of Canada’s best improvisational comedians, performs a scared shirtless improv comedy show. These guys try to be serious, but it just comes out funny. Constantly grooving and gyrating in between scenes they banter with the crowd and perform their hilarious twist on improv sketches. Anybody who caught their hilarious show here last winter will know not to miss this one! No extreme nudity, just extreme hilarity. Adult material and situations – may not be appropriate for all audiences. Painting Reflections. Saturday, Jan. 31, 10:00 - 12:00 pm. Ages 13 - Adult. In art, reflections are everywhere; bodies of water, windows or even in your subject’s eyes. Learn how to master the mysteries of reflections in this informative and interactive drawing/painting class with instructor and artist Pat Gerlach. This class is open to every skill level. Cost: $19.
