From December 16, 2015 to January 17, 2016 bring in commercially packaged, unexpired, non-perishable items to your library, (all FVRL locations), and FVRL will deduct $2/item from your library *fines/fees. Items collected will be donated to the local food bank. *Up to $30 may be deducted per library account during this promotion. Billed items are not eligible to be deducted.

Calling all jigsaw puzzle aficionados, amateurs and addicts alike! The Friends of the Chilliwack Libraries will be holding their annual Jigsaw Puzzle Sale on February 5th and February 6th. Puzzle donations are needed in January! If you have new or used puzzles (for children or adults), take them to the library during regular open hours in January—we’ll add them to the sale! Each puzzle you donate entitles you to purchase another one for 50% off at the sale. Please note that you can only use 2016 coupons for this discount. 6th Chilliwack Scouts, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Ventures will be having a bottle drive at the Chilliwack United Church (across from Save On Foods) parking lot on January 2 from 10 am - 3 pm. Kids Get Messy! Every Tuesday morning drop off your kids to get messy with instructor Steph Brubaker. Caregivers can enjoy some free time, or stay and join in. Let your kids be entertained and save yourself the hassle of getting messy in your own home (your carpets will thank you)! Classes may also include a reading from a popular children’s book which will be the inspiration of our art/craft projects for the class. Drop in is available but pre-registration is recommended. Learn how to write with wire using soft colourful aluminum wire available at your local craft store and simple hand tools. All wire and tools will be supplied for the class but if you own your own tools you are encouraged to bring them. Wire writing is a beautiful way to make a custom gift for anyone, this skill easily transfers to many other mediums, home décor, and baking, just to name a couple and of course jewelry. Wednesdays, January 13th – April 27th, except January 20th, February 10th, March 30th, 10:00 am - 2:30 pm. Bring your quilting projects, sewing machine, and hand work and join the Sardis Library Quilting Group for a day of quilting in the comforts of the Library. This group meets weekly to quilt and socialize. Please note that this is a non-instructional drop-in group. Space is limited so please bring hand work in case the tables are occupied. Don’t forget to bring your lunch and coffee mug.

Thursdays, Jan 14th – Feb 4th, 10:00am-2:00pm (in the Lobby). Using her unique “fabric burning technique, Sylvie Roussel-Janssens will create a suspended window piece with some public participation. Library users are invited to observe the creative process during four sessions at the Chilliwack branch of the FVRL, write a few words about their love of reading and make their mark on the textile artwork. Come and meet Sylvie and get involved on Thursdays in January in the lobby of the Chilliwack branch from 10am to 2pm.

6:00-8:00 pm. Put on your favorite jersey and celebrate hockey and literacy at the Chilliwack Library! Members of the Chilliwack Chiefs BCHL hockey team will read from their favorite books, help kids create a craft, and challenge them to a goal shot contest. Kiss Radio will be onsite with their street team. There will be prizes, music, snacks, photo opportunities and autographs!

The course runs for 5 Fridays from 7:00-9:30 pm. The course consists of a DVD presentation, working through a Workbook and small group discussions. Cost: Free.

The practical tools of the course are applicable to everyone who has the responsibility for a child between the ages of 11-18.

The Fraser Valley Distillery Festival is a tasting event, featuring some of the best Craft and Micro Distilleries in BC. Featuring craft Vodkas, Gins, Single Malt Whiskeys, Fruit Liqueurs, flavoured Liqueurs and more. All of the distilleries are BC owned and operated, and make small batch spirits from locally sourced ingredients. Event is 19+ only, and ticket holders must provide proof of age to enter. Admission includes samples, food, entertainment and more. You can sample any of the available drinks, and even purchase your favourites in our liquor store provided by Sardis Liquor. The event is a fundraiser for The Chilliwack Academy of Music. The Academy is a non-profit music school, a member of the BC Association of Community Music Schools, and a registered charitable organization. All of the proceeds of the event go to raise funds to support music education in your community.

Gallery exhibition runs January 29 – February 25, 2016 at the Art Room (20-5725 Vedder Rd.)
