An exhibition of vibrant creativity, Chilliwack Spinners and Weavers Guild will feature works revolving around a theme well-known to all~ the kitchen! Join us for the opening reception on September 12 at The Art Room, 20-5725 Vedder Rd., from 2 to 4 pm. All are welcome, light refreshments served. Exhibition will run until October 24, 2015 at the Art Room.

This class is 100% free and available to everyone. We provide the space, teacher, mats and props. Studio B aspires to encourage community members to embrace a balanced and mindful lifestyle. Gently flow through your practice while working on poses. This class accommodates a wide range of experience levels from beginner to students that have practiced for a long period of time. The class works on a balance between strength and flexibility while building endurance and improving your breathing and posture.

This class is held every Saturday from 12-1 pm with a rotating teacher. Participants may create a profile and register online. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early.

Adult Open Studio: These are non-instructional sessions that allow you to use our studio to practice on the wheel, handbuilding, or to finish class work. Clay to be purchased separately through The Centre Box Office. Only work produced at The Chilliwack Cultural Centre from clay purchased here can be fired in our kilns. These sessions are not designed to accommodate production potters but to allow students to independently develop their skills. Drop-in work will be glazed during a scheduled drop-in session.

Adult Class: The ability to draw the human figure is an essential art form and vital to those who wish to continue to develop their observational drawing skills. The Life Drawing Open Studio is an open studio for professional and emerging artists, students, and anyone interested in drawing the human form. People work independently and at their own level of experience. While no formal instruction is provided, support and encouragement is given. A variety of male and female models with different body shapes and ages are booked for the open studio.

Adult Class: Want to try a ceramics class but can't commit to a full semester? This class is for you! Three classes over three weeks will give you an introduction to ceramics and see you through all stages of creating small objects in wet clay. Week one will be creating small objects in wet clay, week two will be working with dry and bisqued clay, and week three will be focused on glazing and surface techniques. A great class to take if you are interested in participating in open studios or self-directed projects.

Adult Open Studio: Practice your glass bead making skills with the Glass Open Studio! These non-instructional sessions are designed for those who have taken one of The Centre's Glass Bead/Flameworking classes and that want to continue their glass journey! Prerequisite: Completion of one Chilliwack Cultural Centre Flamework/Glass Bead Class.

Kids' Class: For young artists aged 7-10, the After School Art Camps are the perfect way for kids to delve into a fantastic range of art forms! Each week long camp runs for five sessions, from 3:30-5:00pm, Monday to Friday. Spend the way creating in clay! Children will have the chance to work with wet clay, and to draw and paint on bisqueware.

Kids' Class: Playing with costumes, hats, props, role play and improv games, this class is the perfect way for younger kids to drive right into the fun of acting, while having a ton of fun at the same time! Dimensional Steampunk. Join artist, Steph Brubaker as she demonstrates how to use die cuts, layering and paint techniques, collage and repurposed “junk” into your own customized artistic sculpture. Ages: 7-12, Tuesday, Oct. 6 & 13, 3:30 - 4:30 pm. Cost:$35. *Members save 10%.

Adult Class: An introduction to the basics of Glass Bead Making, this class will teach you how to create a bead from molten glass using a torch and glass rods. Experiment with stringers, frit, and dots and have fun learning a new hobby! Glass alchemy, studio set up and safety will also be discussed.

Adult Class: Take your wheel thrown pottery to the next level with a focus on aesthetics of form and function. This class will help more experienced pottery students who enjoy wheel-throwing to move their work ahead.

From Idea to Illustration: Brainstorming and Sketching Techniques for Editorial Illustration. Have you ever looked at an illustration in a magazine or ad and wondered how the artist came up with the idea, and then how it was made? Join instructor, Tom Froese, as he guides you as you learn about the illustration process, from concept to completion. Although most illustration happens on the computer today, many artists start with the humble pencil and paper. All good illustrations are good ideas first. In this two part course, you will learn how to find a good idea through brainstorming and sketching techniques and then produce a “rough” illustration by hand — everything up to the point where a computer would be needed. The Chilliwack Arts & Cultural Centre Society is thrilled to welcome back Peter Blundell of Guardian Estate Appraisals, for an Antiques in the Attic art and antique appraisal event. Bring your antiques or artwork to the Centre and let Peter unveil the mystery with a verbal appraisal. Each 15 minute session allows for viewing of up to three items, subject to the time constraint, although some individual items may require a full 15 minute session.

The Chilliwack Community Arts Council presents the 2nd Annual Pottery Bowl Fundraiser. What a great way to launch the fall season by taking part in a charity event that involves delicious soup and a one-of-a kind handmade bowl you get to take home. And for only $20 to participate! On October 17 from 1 to 4pm at the Art Room 20-5725 Vedder Rd. The bowls have all been handmade by local potters, and many will be glazed by local celebs. Freshly made soup has been provided by Chilliwack Bowls of Hope Society. Adult Workshop: If you have been wondering what all the buttons on your camera are for then this is the class for you! The basics of composition, lighting, and use of the camera will be covered. Students will need a camera (either a point and shoot or DSLR), their camera manual, a tripod, and pen and notepaper.

Adult Class: This class is for beginners and intermediate artists who wish to create a variety of ceramic pieces without the use of a potters' wheel. This class will cover numerous dish making processes as well as many interesting surface techniques.

Kids' Class: In this class students will learn the basic elements of illustration and composition including basic anatomy, perspective and foreshortening. Students will also move on to the art of inkling pencilled drawings to add colour and finally put it all together to tell a story!

Adult Class: Wheel throwing for beginner pottery students or those wishing to continue to build their skills on the wheel. Students will be taken through the entire process from creating on the wheel to finishing off their work through glazing and firing. This is an eight week course, with seven weeks of wheel work and one of glazing.

Come celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the Soroptimist Club being in Chilliwack! This fall (Oct 24th), the Soroptimist International of Chilliwack group will be hosting their first annual Pajamas & Pearls event at the Coast Hotel in Chilliwack. There will be dinner, dancing, a raffle with very unique items, and an Interactive Vendor Area as well! Doors open at 6pm, with dinner starting at 7pm. The dance (with music by DKX Entertainment) will start at 9pm. Our emcees for the evening will be Megan from Star FM's afternoon show! And if you'd like to stay the night, the Coast Hotel is offering discounted room rates for all guests. Cari Moore, our club President, and Heather Rollins, the Governor for Western Canada, will be saying something short and sweet about our local club, and what Soroptimist does as an International group. The Soroptimist is a group that benefits ladies and girls, so the tickets to this event are being sold to women only. All the vendors, and companies involved are all owned and managed by women as well. And all 100 guests will receive a goodie bag filed with free goodies from even more female-owned-and-operated local businesses! As the theme is Pajamas & Pearls, you can dress as casual, or as face, as you like! There will be a prize for the table with the best "pajamas" costumes, the best "pearl" costumes, and the best combo costumes! And hint, the prizes are bottles of wine!!! The Interactive Vendor area consists of a beautifully decorated bedroom (done by Louise of Pair Home Designs) to have photos taken. And this is NOT your ordinary photo booth - this is glamour done right! Brenda Davis, of Normans Photographic will be on site to capture photos of you individually, and as a group! There will also be eyelash extensions being done by Stephanie Veenstra (owner of Sugar N' Lashes), makeovers by Emmy Edwards (award-winning make-up artist), hair by Pam O'Keefe (owner of The Hair Garage), facial hair removal by Elia Lanteigne (owner of Sugar Me!), and Michelle Duncan, a local Jamberry rep, will be offering two nail wraps as well - ALL FOR FREE!!!!!
