Saturdays, Jan 2 – Apr 30, 10:30-12:00. No need to stay inside the lines at the Chilliwack Library Coloring Club! Come to the Chilliwack Library Saturdays at 10:30-12 to color the stress away! Meet with other coloring enthusiasts in town to share this great hobby and compare your artwork! Supplies will be provided- including coloring pages from some popular adult coloring books (but feel free to bring your own coloring projects).

Bring your quilting projects, sewing machine, and hand work and join the Sardis Library Quilting Group for a day of quilting in the comforts of the Library. This group meets weekly to quilt and socialize. Please note that this is a non-instructional drop-in group. Space is limited so please bring hand work in case the tables are occupied. Don’t forget to bring your lunch and coffee mug.

Thursdays, Jan 14th – Feb 4th, 10:00am-2:00pm (in the Lobby). Using her unique “fabric burning technique, Sylvie Roussel-Janssens will create a suspended window piece with some public participation. Library users are invited to observe the creative process during four sessions at the Chilliwack branch of the FVRL, write a few words about their love of reading and make their mark on the textile artwork. Come and meet Sylvie and get involved on Thursdays in January in the lobby of the Chilliwack branch from 10am to 2pm.

The course runs for 5 Fridays from 7:00-9:30 pm. The course consists of a DVD presentation, working through a Workbook and small group discussions. Cost: Free.

The practical tools of the course are applicable to everyone who has the responsibility for a child between the ages of 11-18.

Gallery exhibition runs January 29 – February 25, 2016 at the Art Room (20-5725 Vedder Rd.) Artist Meet & Greet and Gift Nook Grand Opening on Friday, January 29 from 6 – 8 p.m. The Chilliwack Community Arts Council is proud to present its first gallery exhibition of 2016, Creative Textiles Images, featuring textile artist Judy Hurley. Stó:lō storytellers will lead the audience through stories about bear, raven, salmon, and owl and the connection to the land and the water. Storytellers, including David Gutierrez, Mary Sandoval, Glen Malloway, and Joseph Dandurand, will address the audience throughout the day from 11 am to 3:30 pm in the atrium on the Chilliwack campus at Canada Education Park.

For those who are already familiar with basic cold process soap making techniques and are ready to kick it up a notch, we offer this Advanced Cold Process class to explore more soaping techniques including “in-the-pot” and swirling. You will learn to work with micas, oxides, and natural colorants to create swirls and layers. This advanced class is approx. 3 hours long. This class is limited to 6 people per class to ensure students get the one-on-one help these techniques need. Ages 13-adult, Wed. Feb 3, 6:30pm-9pm. The Art Room Artists have returned! The Art Room is host to free weekly drop-in studio time every Friday afternoon (excluding statutory holidays and CCAC event dates). Drop in anytime between 1 and 5 p.m. and get creative with this group of artists led by Warren Halm. Coffee and tea will be provided. If you’ve been searching for a creative hobby or a fun way to wind down for a few hours, this Cold Processed Soap Workshop is for you! Soap-Making offers a unique approach to delving into your creativity, and will give students a skill that can be used around the house as much as in the craft studio. Students will learn the process of making cold-processed soap, including the ingredients and tools needed to produce a batch of soap. Students will take home at least two bars of colourful soap, and a guidebook on how to produce your own home creations.  The class will run from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.

Xyolhemeylh is hosting its annual Aboriginal Family Forum February 24 and 25 in Chilliwack. February 24 begins with a keynote address with Dr. Allyson L. Cushing followed by lunch and workshops. Day two hosts a variety of workshops focusing on the theme "Finding Your Way in Your Healing Journey, Strengthening Your Roots". The forum is open to Aboriginal Families living on and off reserve.

Saturdays, 1:30 to 3:00 pm. Learn the tricks of the trade for assembling your best-loved memories and milestones into a personalized scrapbook! In this introduction to papercrafts class, students will be introduced to the beginner’s approach to scrapbooking and journaling. Creative layouts based on individualized themes and events will be covered, such as the first days of school, travels abroad, birthdays, sporting events and many more, and students will discover the very best ways to depict their stories through visual and textual media. Students will also have three free drop-ins for our newly re-opened Papercraft Open Studio, a self-directed weekly session where projects and creations can be worked on at the Centre, using familiar tools and supplies.
