We are opening in Chilliwack for this live & online challenge - focusing on weight loss, fitness and personal development. The community gets involved during voting with Chilliwack Progress. This is a non-profit organization. Applications to join start Dec. 1st, and the Challenge starts January 21, 2018.

Tuesdays, May 1 – May 22, 10:30 am - 11:30 am. Everyone can benefit from meditation! By focusing and quieting your mind, you can reach a higher level of awareness and inner calm, positively impacting your health and wellbeing. Local meditation practitioner and yoga instructor Kristy Van Den Bosch will go over the basics of meditation and give participants an opportunity to put their newly acquired skills into practice through guided meditations.

2 pm – 3 pm. Join the Friends of the Chilliwack Libraries Society on the first Wednesday of every month. This volunteer organization supports the library through advocacy, fundraising and assistance with various projects and programs. New friends are always welcome!

Wednesdays, May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, 10:30 am – 11 am. Make language fun! Start early with Babytime. Help your baby develop speech and language skills — enjoy bouncing, singing and rhyming with stories. Babytime is a fun, social bonding activity for babies AND caregivers. Registration begins April 3.

7 pm – 8:30 pm. All "uked" up and no place to jam? All levels of experience are welcome at our fun and relaxed ukulele circle. This program is in partnership with the Chilliwack Academy of Music. Space is limited. Please arrive early to avoid disappointment.

The Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra and Chorus are delighted to present the accomplished violin duo, MIDNIGHT MEOW, on May 12th, 7:30 p.m. at First Ave. Christian Assembly. Run for Mom is a Mother’s Day celebration and fundraising event for the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation supporting Chilliwack General Hospital. Year after year, participants and their families help raise money that directly benefits programs for women and children at Chilliwack General Hospital.

Since 2000, Run for Mom has raised over $420,000 to purchase equipment such as: fetal monitors, infant resuscitator, labour delivery bed, oxygen analyzer, glidescope, jaundice meter, isolette, specialized surgical table and more. Last year, the event raised $30,000 to buy a fetal monitor for the Chilliwack Maternity Department. We could not have done so without our amazing sponsors and participants supporting this worthwhile cause. This year the funds raised will be designated towards the purchase of a new CT Scanner for Medical Imaging as well as an infant vital monitor for the Maternity Department at Chilliwack General Hospital.

The 8th annual Impact 7-Aside Soccer Tournament will be on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Fairfield Park located at 46213 Claire Avenue in Chilliwack, BC. There are 3 divisions; competitive, fun, and corporate, with a maximum of 12 teams in each division. The teams will compete until one team in each division becomes victorious. Each team must be made up of both male and female players. All proceeds support the PEARL Life Renewal Society. There will also be games for the kids, a bouncy castle and of course delicious food. We invite you and your family to come out and show your support!

Canada's National Junior A hockey championships come to Chilliwack in May 2018! With ticket sales already underway, the community of Chilliwack is looking to break the RBC Cup attendance record when it welcomes Canada’s National Junior A Championship May 12-20, 2018, at the Prospera Centre. Grande Prairie, Alta., host of the 2004 RBC Cup, currently holds the attendance record of 35,953. The 2018 RBC Cup represents a partnership between Hockey Canada, the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL), the BCHL, BC Hockey, and the host Chilliwack Chiefs as four regional champions (Central, East, Pacific, West) join the Chiefs in playing to become national champions. The 2018 RBC Cup schedule features 10 preliminary-round games, including the Chiefs’ tournament-opener at 7 p.m. PT on May 12, along with two semifinals, and the championship game, when the puck is slated to drop at 5 p.m. PT on May 20. TSN and RDS, Hockey Canada’s official broadcast partners, broadcast the championship game, while all other games will be available via live stream at HockeyCanada.ca/RBCCup.

In recognition of Mental Health Week Canada, come experience the physical and emotional benefits of the unconditional love of a dog. This drop-in program is for 9 – 18 year olds.

Mondays - May 14, June 11, July 9 & August 13, 11:45 am - 12:30 pm. Some of our happiest memories include sharing music with family, most often a parent or grandparent. Make a lasting memory with your child and nurture the natural love of music that is intrinsic in all children. The bond between musical learning and all other forms of learning has been scientifically proven. With this class, children learn through singing, movement, and trying instruments, but also through watching their loved ones take part. This program is for children ages 0 – 5 and is in partnership with the Chilliwack Academy of Music.

2:30 pm – 3:30 pm. Our butterflies have arrived and Yarrow Library will be having a celebration on May 15. Come to the library to hear a story, make a butterfly craft and watch us release the new butterflies into the community.

Wednesdays, May 16 - June 27, 3 pm - 4 pm. Do you have a reluctant reader who needs some “warm and fuzzy” in their day? Reading to a four-legged buddy can help build confidence and increase self-esteem. Trained therapy dogs are the perfect fit for those needing a friend to read to. This is a free program for ages 6-12. Please contact the Sardis Library to schedule a session.

Free 6-week workshop teaches skills to manage daily challenges of living with chronic pain. Dealing with pain, difficult emotions, how to exercise safely, and goal-setting are some of the topics discussed. All participants receive "Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Pain" at no cost. Persons with pain and caregivers are welcome to attend. Registration is required.

The Soroptimist Awards Ceremony featuring the Woman of the Year will be on Wednesday, May 23rd at City Hall. Reception starts at 6:30 with the Ceremony starting at 7 pm. It is a free event where we honour some amazing women in our community and present awards to our Live Your Dream winners, Marti Rogers and Leah Wilson, as well as the 2018 Woman of the Year: Anna Tosso.

This spring, residents and their four-legged “best friends” are preparing to walk together for the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides. Each walk is organized by a member of the community. By participating in the Walk, you can help provide life-changing Dog Guides to Canadians with disabilities. Walk routes are accessible to all.

1 pm – 4 pm. This workshop will reveal the most effective job search ideas. You will be able to make better use of your personal and social media networks. Topics covered include: creating a personal marketing pitch, uncovering the hidden job market, and the most effective job search techniques. This program is in partnership with Chilliwack Community Services and Work BC.

Musical Bingo – Thursday, May 31st at the Mount Cheam Lion’s Hall 45580 Spadina Avenue, Chilliwack 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm. Join us for an evening of fun playing musical bingo! Musical bingo is a game combining various categories of music, movies and a little trivia with the concept of a traditional bingo game. Numbers on the bingo cards are replaced with items from the categories above and called out by a caller.
