Come and share your surplus homegrown fruits and veggies with Ruth & Naomi's Mission for their dinner program and weekly produce hampers! When: Every Monday evening between 5 and 7 pm from July 7 till October 6, 2014. Who: Everyone is welcome! Drop in with your locally grown excess fruit/ vegetable harvest for washing and weighing. Why: Because we value quality, homegrown produce, and want to provide an opportunity for locals to share their excess produce with others in our community. The total weight of all the produce collected will be recorded as part of the Plant a Row Grow a Row national campaign. The produce donated will be delivered to Ruth & Naomi's at the end of each drop off.

Are you a new photographer with your first DSLR or a seasoned photographer with a new toy? Join Sardis library's new Camera club. This drop-in club meets once a month to explore digital camera settings and different photography styles. Be prepared to ask questions, answer questions, share your successes and your failures, and enjoy all elements of photography in a friendly supportive setting. Join Ruth Derksen-Siemens, UBC professor, first generation Canadian of Russian Mennonite descent, resident of a traditional Mennonite community in the Fraser Valley, and author. She will discuss her book Daughters in the City-Mennonite Maids in Vancouver, 1931-1961, which recently won the Lieutenant Governor’s Book Award for its contribution to BC history. Stay after the reading for tea and an opportunity to meet the author and exchange stories. Copies of Derksen-Siemens' book will be available for purchase.

Canada meets Austria meets the Sto:lo Nation in Chilliwack, for an English language production of W.A. Mozart’s “The Magic Flute“ to be presented at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on the 25th, 27th and 28th of September. The Chilliwack Symphony, together with the Chilliwack Opera Troupe, has attracted internationally experienced singers from Vienna, Salzburg, Toronto and Victoria, and combined them with gifted singers from Chilliwack and Abbotsford, to perform this unique adaptation of the popular opera for small orchestra, inspired through the combined talents of Bernard Blary and Ron Hannah. Also featured in the upcoming production are specially designed masks, created by artists of the Sto:lo Nation. “The Magic Flute” will be conducted by Paula De Wit, Musical Director of the CSO and COT and is directed by Andrea Mellis, a Chilliwack Senior Secondary graduate. Ms. Mellis, with 40 years of international experience as a singer, has also directed in theatres throughout Europe and Asia.

The Chilliwack Community Arts Council is excited to present Award-winning children’s entertainer Will Stroet and his Backyard Band on Saturday, Sept. 27 for two rockin’ family fun-filled performances! Will Stroet inspires kids to be active, healthy, creative and engaged in the world through educational music in English and French. Catchy and kinetic, Will and his Backyard Band perform a high-energy family show with fun actions and sing-along choruses, featuring music from his new album, “Just Imagine,” as well as his other acclaimed albums.
