  Engineering

Department Responsibilities:

The Engineering Department is responsible for the construction of the Municipality's infrastructure. This includes the provision of transportation related services (road construction/repair, storm sewers, etc.), as well as the urban transit system. The planning and construction of water and sanitary sewer services is also the responsibility of the this department.

The City's solid waste and recycling initiatives are also the responsibility of the Engineering department. For more information on these initiatives, see the Environmental Services section.

Tyson – Stevenson Sanitary Sewer Project On November 30, 2009 the Province of BC and the Federal Government announced $2.5 million dollars in funding from the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund for the installation of a sanitary sewer system in the Tyson-Stevenson area. This grant funding provides up to 2/3 the cost of the sewer installation with the remaining amount split between the City of Chilliwack and the area residents. The project has a completion requirement by March 2011 in order to meet the funding requirements.

    Rotary Trail Closure - Vedder Crossing
  • The Rotary Trail is back open to the public, effective January 23rd. Bank protection repairs have been completed at the two most critical sites. Some additional bank protection work may be carried out in the future. This website will be updated if another closure is required.
    Safer City
  • Safer City is a collaborative partnership between the City of Chilliwack, The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (R.C.M.P.), and The Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (I.C.B.C.) aimed at achieving safer roads for all road users including motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and other non-conventional road users.
    Vedder River and Canal Temporary Vehicle Access Restrictions
  • Temporary vehicle access restrictions at several locations on the Vedder River and Canal in September 2008 during gravel removal operations for flood protection

  • The City is dedicated to monitoring, protecting, and conserving our water resource in order to ensure that residents will continue to be able to enjoy this high quality water for years to come.
    Western Toad Migration
  • While the Western Toad Migration is occurring, the City would like to ask the community's patience during 3 periods of time where Elk View Road and Ryder Lake Road will be closed.
